I heart BSG

As you may have noticed, this blog has been defunct for 2 years. What has prompted me to write again? 3 letters: BSG. To the uninitiated, this stands for Battlestar Galactica, which by the way, passes blogger's spell check. I promise, I will avoid spoilers.
Battlestar Galactica is a show of such a high quality rarely seen outside the Whedonverse. (Whedonverse does not, however, pass bloggers spell check. Too much to hope for, I guess.) It takes place many thousands of years in the future. There are spaceships and robots and plenty of violence and intrigue. All of this makes for a pretty good show, but what really makes BSG stand out is how the writers steer towards tough questions, rather than try to avoid them. This show provides one of the most interesting commentaries on issues in contemporary times I have ever seen. Just as Buffy shined a light on the difficulties of High School and vampire slaying, BSG raises many complicated issues we as a society should and do grapple with. Also, it teaches us to watch out for robots. And hubris.
I started watching BSG because Joss Whedon told me to. In a dvd commentary on an episode of Dollhouse, he mentioned he loved the show. When you worship at the house of Joss you do as you are told. Interestingly, Tahmoh Penikett, who is the lead actor on Dollhouse, has a great role on BSG. In a different commentary, Joss said he cast Penikett in Dollhouse because he loved him so much as Helo in BSG. I love him so much, too.
So in conclusion, I'm not entirely sure why I resurrected this blog except that I had such a strong urge to register my approval for BSG in cyberspace. The best part is the series is currently on Netflix Instant Play! So queue up and enjoy!

Quitter's Flu

Two big changes in my life. First, I have a new roommate. I am so psyched. Already the place feels great and we have a ways to go with organizing and setting up our space. Rebecca is really good at lots of things I am not so good at (like organizing). I think we make a great team.

In other big changes, I quit smoking again. For some reason its hitting me harder than ever before. I am really sick. I did some research and I think I have "quitter's flu," which pretty much means I'm going through withdrawl and its making me sick. No fun. Oh well. My former roommate suggested I switch to crack to alleviate my symptoms.

In work news, I have a new co-teacher. He is very laid back and its been good so far. Less stressful, for sure. I can't believe I'm in my 4th year of teaching. sort of unbelievable.

Trying out the blogging thing again. I think that's enough for now.

HOTlanta

I love Atlanta. I'm here for a reading conference for work. I've been here for three days and its great. Really great. There are free shuttles everywhere! The weather is beautiful and I am staying in the most amazing hotel. I get a free bottle of water every day. I asked for extra shampoo and I got 3 extra shampoos. That's service. Also, I forgot my toothbrush (ooops) and they gave me two! I have a king sized bed in my room. I slept sideways the first night just because I could.

Let me just say this. Teachers are crazy. I mean totally crazy. There are 17,000 (yes, 17, 000) people at this conference. All crazy. That's a whole lot of crazy. Good thing the conference is being held in the Georgia World Congress Center, the largest building I have ever seen. Seriously. It is, I would estimate, the width of Manhattan. The first day of the conference I showed up at the entrance right on time, or so I thought. Little did I know that "Building C" was actually a 15 minute trek through grey and maroon halls. What an ugly building. Yet, I have to give it props for being the largest indoor space I have ever been in. Respect.

So I don't know if this is actually interesting or not. I'm new to the whole "blogging" thing. I feel like its premised on the assumption that people want to hear your inner monologue. In most cases its an "inner monologue" for a reason. Oh well. I never did have a very effective filter for my mouth. Here's just one more medium in which I can be outrageously inappropriate.

Hope all is well in the NYC.

Welcome to the Bloghouse

Hi. I'm in Delaware. I mean cyberspace.
